Industrial Flat
The property is located in an industrial town in the south of Ukraine with a large number of heavy metallurgy factories. It’s 53 m square in the residential part of the city. The family owner lives abroad and comes back for holidays. So the purpose has been to create a family place with a family history background for holidays and the remaining time for the letting through Airbnb. The first owner of the property was a factory worker, but nevertheless, he was quite intelligent, played chess and had a good library. The hostess was a creative person, she had handmade hobbies. The family loved animals. The property contained some ethnic art on the walls and a few items of classical furniture.
The budget for renovation was not big but large enough to make an ergonomic design with the latest technology, which becomes possible with saving on decorations in favour of interesting art decisions and restoring a large number of original surfaces.
Cosy Space
The apartment was newly bought in the centre of the city. It is in a historic building of the Stalinist era with a 3m high ceiling. It had original columns with mouldings, but their condition was in a sorry state. The decision was made to restore the feeling of that time by creating completely new columns.
The task for the designer was to create a space for a single man with the possibility to transform it into a family apartment. At the end of the works in the property though, he was no longer a single man.
The owner had accepted all design ideas and was keen to implement all of the drawings. Nevertheless, during the building process, he made his own decision for some small changes which didn't harm the whole impression of the design.
Loft conversion
Loft conversion at the house in north London.
The loft was rebuilt from scratch by design. It was created as an art studio including a separate bed zone with a freestanding bath and a wet shower room. The designer used original house bricks on the walls as decorative and the rest of the decor was played around these bricks. The most important parts of the design were a rustic floor giving a structural feeling on bare feet, a freestanding copper bath, and a French window with the metal rail to the garden. The wet room was created with the inspiration of Greek islands. The whole space has a feeling of bringing outdoors to indoors.
